An image of just what looked like a megalodon shark appeared in the fish finder screen belonging to scientists at the Atlantic Shark Institute.

For a brief but moment that is exciting researchers during the Atlantic Shark Institute in Rhode Island thought that, perhaps, a giant shark from ancient history had came back.

It all began during a shark that is current journey, according to a post by the institute on Facebook. The scientists took a glance at their sonar fish finder and were surprised to see just what seemed to be a shark that is gigantic.

The researchers posited that the form might be compared to the Otodus megalodon, a “macropredator” that, in accordance with a substantial research article in Science, lived 23 to 2.6 million years back.

“We estimate that the adult O. megalodon could cruise at quicker absolute speeds than any shark species today and completely digest prey how big is contemporary apex predators,” paleontologists, whom created 1st model that is 3D of shark, penned into the article.

Based on the article, megalodons could be up to 20 meters long and favored prey that is large which helped minimize competition.

So you might suppose the researchers at the institute had been a bit intimidated.

“Based regarding the amount of the image we estimated the ‘Meg’ to be about 50 feet long, weighing in at 40 tons!” they composed on Facebook.

Sadly, following a couple of minutes, the researchers saw the image shift and noticed it was just a college that is large of, and never the return of one of Earth’s most fearsome predators.

One commenter on Facebook joked that the scientists have been “catfished,” a term for when a person runs on the fake profile picture online, by the mackerels, have been posing as a much more fish that is impressive.
